    Hi,

Since updating Yoast my page titles are no longer working as expected. We have Yoast set up to use the page title, separator, and site title and have not made any changes to our theme or yoast settings. Now all page title are just as wordpress outputs them with 0 yoast formatting. Changing the title in the page settings via the ‘seo title’ section does nothing.

    Thank you

  • Hi @kkow,

Thank you for reaching out. That is not expected. Can you please share a URL so we can check the output Yoast has on the page. Can you also share a screenshot so we can see what you configured for the page and how it differs from the output that the plugin creates?

Furthermore, are WordPress, your theme, and all of your plugins up-to-date? If not, does the issue persists after making sure that everything is up to date?

    Looking forward.

    Hi @jeroenrotty,

Sure, please see the attached screenshots showing both the output and the page configuration for our home page and blog page as examples:

    Thank you

Forgot to add that everything is up to date as well

@kkow We checked on the page referenced in your screenshot and do see that the <title> tag is being output as the following:

<title>VA Disability Benefits for Carpal Tunnel – CCK Law</title>

If you clear your cache (server, plugin/theme, browser, or CDN such as Cloudflare) does this resolve the issue? If you are not sure how to clear your server cache you should speak with your host provider.

If the issue is still occurring after clearing the cache, this may be due to a plugin or theme conflict affecting the plugin’s output. Can you try and gather as much information for us as possible? Please perform the following:

    1. Check for conflicts.
    2. Check for JavaScript errors with your console.
If you find any JavaScript errors related to Yoast SEO or if there is a conflict with a plugin or a theme, you can create a new GitHub issue for our developers. Please report the issue to a third party developer as well.

If you didn’t find any conflicts or errors, we think the issue is specific to your site. We’d need to investigate further but are unable to do so on these forums. You can purchase Yoast SEO Premium and receive our Premium email support and we can help you further.

    Hi @devnihil,

I cleared the website cache and checked for conflicts. I was able to determine that by adding the following code snippet the titles did revert back to being controlled through Yoast.

    add_theme_support( ‘title-tag’ );

That being said I can also say with certainty that this was caused by one of the latest Yoast updates. I just went to another website we have that had an older version of Yoast with the same setup as the previous theme (as in no theme support for ‘title-tag’) and the titles were in fact being changed correctly. Then I updated Yoast to the newest version and the titles immediately changed to not what was in the Yoast page settings.

I’m glad I was able to find a solution quickly, but something like this should definitely be mentioned to developers and site owners as I’m sure Google will find it suspicious that all the page titles on an entire site have changed overnight.

Anyways, thank you for the assistance!

My website is also using the Newspaper theme, and I can’t solve it. Apparently it was an update of the plugin
