• After updating a site to WordPress 4.1, I now get the following error in the SEO Title section of the Yoast SEO plugin:

Warning: Title display in Google is limited to a fixed width, yours is too long.

This shows up on a blank page with no data in it any place and I cannot make this disappear.

Another odd thing that I noticed is that on the last page I created, when this error first came up, is that the prior page that had this error shows up in Google and the SEO Title that normally shows is now a heading from further down in the page.

I am clueless as to how to fix this. If I could get some assistance, I would be eternally grateful.

Just as an update…I upgraded one of my test installs (different server and mostly different plugins) to 4.1 and immediately, both Yoast SEO and Analytics broke. A response from Yoast on GitHub was that they could not duplicate the error and that it must be a plugin with Javascript errors. Rather than try the “turn on/turn off” steps with the plugins, I reverted back to 4.0.1 and the problems went away.

I’ve been searching for an answer to this problem for a while now. No one on the internet seems to know how to fix it and because it is a free plugin by Yoast they won’t respond to inquiries about the issue.

Anyone know why this warning is coming up erroneously?

I don’t know if it helped any, but the problem pretty much went away for me after disabling the WP Smush plugin. I think there may have been a conflict there. If you are running both of these, it is worth a shot to see what happens.

I don’t use smush but I guess I could try slowly turning one thing off after another until I find the conflict.

I know I don’t have the problem on another website I’m creating.

    Thanks!

I appologize to all in advance for hijacking this thread.

@juice370, I can help you with your issue “This message may not have been sent by:” – please message me off-forum.

Yes, me too Warning: Title display in Google is limited to a fixed width, yours is too long.

I just reinstalled my whole site
    fressh
    hardly any plugins
could it be a chrome thing?
    they stopped supporting java

I am getting the same thing. Curiously though, if I deactivate/re-activate the Yoast plugin in it disappears then returns.

For me this issue started right after I checked the box for “Force rewrite titles” (as that was the only way I managed to get the doubling up of the website name on browser tabs to disappear) and now it doesn’t matter how short the page title is, it is “too long.” I had zero issues until the check box was checked.

This happened to my site also. what I did is, I deactivated some of my plug ins, and everything went smoothly.

Hi. I seem to have precisely the same issue, except it is only on my posts.
It doesn’t appear on my pages.

I have deactivated all my new and old plugins. I’ve checked and unchecked the “Force Rewrite Titles”. Nothing helps.
All that I can think is that there might be some issue with my theme and that it not compatible with Yoast, which I’ll try next.
Any ideas what else it might be?

I’m getting this too. Page title is definitely not too long.
Running Yoast SEO 2.2.1 on WP 4.2.2 with Twenty Twelve and child theme. No other plugins touch the page title. Never used to have this problem.

Same here at my website diagnosemycomputer.com/faq

    happens in Posts and Pages

“Warning: Title display in Google is limited to a fixed width, yours is too long.”

If I remove my Site Title then the warning goes away because my title isn’t so long.

For some reason Yoast and WordPress are wanting to include web page title and site title. Anyone know how to solve this?

    Theme I’m using:

    X theme

    Hi dears and seniors,
I am also suffering from this issue and I am worry about this error. Even adding new post and post is completely empty that error is still shown and after making SEO signal green that error still here.
What can I do for that issue?
Is this issue can make any kind of disturbance in my SEO.

I am also suffered from this problem.
Just startet with first try of SEO.
A little bit sad, that YOAST shows no reaction… .

What would you reccomend me? Wait for solution? Delete Yoast and use an other Plug in????
Thank you very much in advance… .

Anyone have a solution for this?
