A post previously using Classic Editor:
    [ redundant link removed ]

Currently working on a staging site!

I am currently in the process of taking off Thrive Architect and the Classic Editor to help with site speed. I am transitioning my site to solely relying on Gutenberg Editor and a Gutenberg block plugin (Kadence Blocks).

I haven’t been able to find title attributes after taking off the Classic Editor. I can only find the alt text of images now.

I wanted to know if not having title attributes to images on my site would even be important or worth thinking about. After some Google searching, I found this article:
    https://mrwweb.com/the-title-attribute-and-why-its-almost-useless/

Does anyone have any advice about title attributes on images and their significance? Are the title attributes still showing on my images?

Unless it’s useful that a tooltip appear when hovering over an image, I don’t think the title attribute in img tags has much usefulness. AFAIK it doesn’t factor into any sort of SEO ranking.

I checked a couple random images on your linked page and none have title attributes. I don’t see any problem with them not being there.

The block editor’s image block does have a field where you could specify a title if you wanted to (under “Advanced”). It also links to an advisory at w3.org that in part says “Relying on the title attribute is currently discouraged…”

    Hi @bcworkz,

Thank you for letting me know that it is discouraged to rely on the title attribute. I think titles/title attributes are not showing after I took off the Classic Editor on my website this week. That’s when I noticed the image title or title attributes weren’t showing on Gutenberg.

I did some research on these posts that I can’t find the title attribute in the coding such as: https://justtatythings.com/craft-room-organization-ideas-on-a-budget/.

The title attribute is not showing in the coding, but is showing on Media Library.

What I see on Media Library:

If I shouldn’t worry about titles/title attributes with SEO, should I worry about this for website maintenance puproses?

I see no reason to be concerned about title attributes in images, maintenance or otherwise. If you want tooltips to appear on hover, such as happens with some icons, then title is useful for that. Except it probably would be assigned on insertion and wouldn’t take the default title in the media library. Tooltips are no longer a useful UI device since the hover state is not meaningful with touchscreen devices.

The title in the media library is primarily for helping identify images when using the list view. It doesn’t normally get used in front end content, other than on single attachment pages — which many people never link to, favoring linking to the media file itself.

FWIW, I just tried inserting an image with the current classic editor. It too did not include a title attribute by default. You can specify one if you like, but it appears to be entirely optional. Same situation with the block editor. I then checked an image in a post from 2012 and it had no title attribute either. I’m not convinced title attributes were used by default for a very long time. Themes or plugins could alter title behavior though.

@bcworkz Thanks for elaborating on the use of tooltips. I hadn’t thought of their application on touchscreen devices.

I appreciate you also checking on classic editor and letting me know what you saw on a 2012 post. I will keep that in mind in the future with other blog posts!

Thanks for helping me with this issue!
