Tired of manual FTP – want to update in dashboard: how?

  • I’ve been manually updating WP and plugins over several versions with an FTP application, and I’m getting tired of that process. I should be able to update through the dashboard. I don’t know what settings I might change, or what to ask the ISP in order to make the dashboard updaters work. Any suggestions?

  • Call your host and explain what you are trying to do. Most people who work in the industry know what wordpress is and should be able to help get it working.

    If not, drop them and go with someone who gives you a WordPress Install as a feature choice.

    Is your hosting account still running PHP4? If so, find out from your host how to upgrade to PHP5 – sometimes it’s quite simple. I think the auto-upgrades run more smoothly on PHP5 so that could be all or part of the issue.
