I think they should take advantage of the situation of the plugin since it is the only one of its kind with a somewhat more aggressive strategy, only the entries will not cause more sales, decide to put the custom fields as well and you will see how the sales of the premium version are going to shoot, in the end people will also want the plugins in the frontend and the premium version will be sold in 95% of the cases, the important thing is to have a good free offer and a better premium, the premium they already have and it’s the plugins , but they need to promote the free one and that can only be with custom fields on the frontend, posts and possibly pages.
The competition quickly catches up with better offers but when it is already a solid offer it is difficult to overcome them.
I personally see a lot of future for the plugin but I think it needs to go a step further in the free version before other developers create something similar and get one step ahead, you have had the idea, take advantage of it.
At this point, the plugin should already be among the first in downloads, with at least 200,000 downloads, as companies like ACF, Yoast or Automattic have done, offering very complete free versions and then much-needed premium versions, I only make this suggestion because I think that your plugin is revolutionary and solves problems that would otherwise only be giving access to the backend, something I am not a fan of.
That is my suggestion and my opinion.

    All the best.
