I’ve never run into this before, but now on two different WP 4.1 installations, I’ve had a problem with the TinyMCE editor font going white on white, which makes it invisible. Also, it’s set to that nasty Georgia font, which drives me insane.

*Also note on this problem: it didn’t affect all browsers. Clearing browser cache didn’t help either. Disabling all plugins didn’t work either.

So, dug around and here’s the place to edit it:

    root/wp-includes/js/tinymce/skins/wordpress/wp-content.css

Here you can change the body font, size, etc. Setting this to black fixed the problem instantly for me.

Typically, the editor styles are controlled by the theme. If you switch to the Twenty Fifteen theme, and the issue goes away, then it is much better to report the bug to your theme’s developer than just modify core files to get around it.

I’m using the starter theme (Underscores) from Automatic, the creators of WordPress. Lol. Guess they’ll figure it out.

Hm, then you shouldn’t have had a problem at all.

Try downloading WordPress again and delete then replace your copies of everything except the wp-config.php file and the /wp-content/ directory with fresh copies from the download. This will effectively replace all of your core files without damaging your content and settings. Some uploaders tend to be unreliable when overwriting files, so don’t forget to delete the original files before replacing them.

Thanks for responding James. I did that already. Since this site was still pretty new, I just exported what I needed, toasted everything down to the database, and started 100% clean. Even re-downloaded WP and kicked out another theme from Automatic. Problem persisted.

Fascinating, maybe something in the browser or server configuration then?

If it truly is a core file as you say, wouldn’t you think we’d have more than this report out of the 9,614,487 downloads so far? ??

James, I’m with you man. I build a lot of WP sites and have never seen this.

I’ve been using Roots and just switched to Underscores. This has been the only oddity I’ve seen.

Side note: I’ve only had it happen in Google Chrome. And I did the normal clear browsing data thing to make sure it wasn’t something lame like that.

I’m getting ready to setup another site right now. We’ll see how that goes. Now I’m at home on my Mac as opposed to an old Windows machine at the office.

If you run into the same problem, maybe check with all of your browser extensions temporarily disabled.

Reporting back: not having this problem in Chrome on Mac. Only Chrome on Windows, and my workstation at work is ancient – Windows XP. My Mac is current.

Did you try with all of Chrome’s extensions temporarily disabled?

    (@theatereleven)

No, I had already fixed it at work, and didn’t take time to undo and retry. However, I did notice that Firefox didn’t replicate the problem. So I think it’s a Chrome/Windows XP thing. I don’t like Windows anyway.

Excellent, as long as it’s working with what you like. ??
