    Other plugins or parts of the code that are not obvious may hook into functions there so leaving is probably the best option.

    Actually, I remove the TinyMCE stuff on most of my WP installations. As long as you keep your deletions to what’s in wp-includes/js/tinymce/ there should be no problems.
