• I administrate a dozen or so WordPress sites and recently a number of users have been reporting that content on WordPress pages will occasionally become uneditable for them. Switching their role to Administrator “fixes” the problem, but is obviously an unacceptable workaround. Here’s what I’ve done to try and resolve this:

    • Replaced wp-admin and wp-includes directories
    • Disabled all plugins and switched to default theme
    • Removed all user preferences for Editor user accounts
    • Copied content to a new page. This worked temporarily and then the problem came back again.
    • Cleared all cookies and browser cache
    • Changed user role to Administrator and Author and back to Editor again

I have found nothing which fixes this problem and keeps it from coming back again. I’ve reviewed the database tables for the content in question and found no indication of anything out of the ordinary. Has anyone run into this?

    Thank you!

I thought I would add a few more bits of information to this:

When the user visits the editing screen for the affected content, the “Visual” tabs displays in TinyMCE, but the HTML content is what displays. Sometimes this content is visible in the editing box, sometimes the content is white on a white background.

The “Screen Options”, “Help”, and “Howdy, User” buttons do not function on the affected pages.

Again, switching the user to administrator fixes the issue.

    Thanks again!

I’ve created a testing environment for this problem. I exported all of the content (without the media) to the new test site and created new user accounts. When I go to load the page with the editor-level users I don’t run into this issue on the test site.

I’m totally baffled. Does anyone have any good idea as to what would be a good next step in troubleshooting this?
