    Hi,

At the minute, we have both plugin updates and Wordfence updates which are made available. Then Wordfence scans our clients websites, and sends them a scary email about things needing updating. Then, WordPress automatically updates these things.

Is there any way of changing this timing so the scans and the emails are timed better to avoid this “crying wolf”? Right now we have to tell the clients not to worry about the email, but this is training them to ignore the emails generally so if a legitimate issue come in, perhaps from a failed update, they’d just ignore it.

Hi @delanthear, thanks for your message.

You can take a look at the Wordfence > Tools > Diagnostics page which contains a list of Cron Jobs and whether they are scheduled and/or overdue. The key dates and times you’re looking for are wp_update_plugins/wp_update_themes versus the time your wordfence_start_scheduled_scan runs. Let me know what you see.

It would also be helpful to know your current setting for Wordfence > All Options > Email Alert Preferences > Alert me with scan results of this severity level or greater. Changing this to “Critical” would mean that nobody is notified unless a serious security concern is found. Even if the automatic update still takes place, it is useful that a person has been alerted to – and checked – whether it has been dealt with.

    Thanks,
    Peter.
