Hi, this is a very handy plugin and just what I was looking for with a web project. My question is whether it might be possible to time content based on the days of a week for recurring content as opposed to using specific dates?

My client would like to display specific content that only appears for each day of the week Mon, Tue, Wed, etc. and then have them repeat automatically on a weekly basis. Currently, I have each day’s block with the Timed Content shortcode set for a specific day from 12:00 AM to 11:59 PM with all seven set accordingly. So for each new week, I would need to go in and manually change the date for each shortcode. Not a big deal, but I wanted to see if there was a smoother process.

    Thanks!
    Frank

    Hi, Frank.

What you’ll want to do is create a Timed Content Rule; you can set it to run on a weekly frequency on certain days (e.g. to run only on weekdays, you’d check off the days Monday to Friday). After saving the rule, you’d use the [timed-content-rule] shortcode with that rule’s ID. You can copy the shortcode off of the Timed Content Rules admin page, or use the Timed Content button in the Post’s editor to insert the shortcode.

Thanks for the tip. I tried a test and created a rule for Repeating Mondays with the following settings and added the correct rule shortcode to the appropriate location:
    Action: Show the content
    Starting Date/Time: August 18, 2014 – 12:00 AM
    Ending Date/Time: August 18, 2014 – 11:59 PM.
    Frequency: Weekly
    Repeat How Often: 52
Repeat On The Following Days: Mondays
How Often To Repeat This Action? Keep repeating until a given date
    End Date: August 21st, 2015

Problem is that when Monday, August 25, 2014 came around, my Monday content did not repeat/display. Was I correct to identify a Starting Date & Ending Date? Or should I just have the Time set without an actual Date?

    Regards,

I don’t see anything wrong there, at first glance. Do you see the correct expected dates and times when you click Show Projected Dates/Times?

This is what I see for Show Projected Dates/Times:

    Start / End
    Monday, August 18th, 2014, 12:00 AM PDT Monday, August 18th, 2014, 11:59 PM PDT
    Monday, August 17th, 2015, 12:00 AM PDT Monday, August 17th, 2015, 11:59 PM PDT

Only two dates scheduled. And here is the rule description:
Show the content on August 18, 2014 @ 12:00 AM until August 18, 2014 @ 11:59 PM. Repeat this action every 52 weeks on Mondays. This rule will be active until August 21st, 2015. All times are in the America/Los_Angeles timezone.

Oops, I misread the first time. Set Repeat How Often? to “1” instead of “52”; what it was saying was to repeat every 52 weeks, when what you want is to repeat every week. Once you’ve changed that, look at Show Projected Dates/Times and see what it says.

Once you’re satisfied, save the changes. You won’t need to change any of the shortcodes calling that rule.

Ah, so I misunderstood the Repeat How Often setting! I’ve got it now and can confirm the correct function & listing in the Show Project Dates/Times. Thanks so much for the clarification!

    Cheers,
    Frank
