• I’m using a Mac to post via email/Postie to my self-hosted WordPress installation. When I paste images into the Mac’s Mail editor, they’re sent as tiffs. WordPress/Postie correctly uploads and publishes the posts with the images.

I can view the images in blog posts on the published blog when using Safari. But when I use Firefox, the images disappear. Viewing the source, they’re there, linked as .tiff files. Anyone else seen this?

Is there a way to get WordPress to convert tiffs to jpegs or pngs on upload?

Or is there a Mac blog post editor that will convert tiff to jpeg/png upon send?

    Thanks!

  • Hi Gary –

Not being a Mac user (anymore) I can’t help you much. However I can tell you that uploading tiffs is not a good idea as very few browsers can display them see this table to find out which do.

If you don’t like WordPress’s built-in editors then have a look at some of the Mac blogging programs available.

    All the best.

    Gary,

As far as I know, if you drag a jpeg into Mail on a mac, it does not convert it. My guess is that your image is a tiff to begin with. You can convert it to a jpeg or png with the Preview application. (tiffs are also very large (in bytes), so are not very good for the web).
