• Hello,

    Hope you can help..

On the oceanwp demo for ‘travel’ (and others), in the sidebar of the blog section, the recent posts have thumbnails. However, when I unstall the demo on my own site, the thumbnails are missing. What should I do to get the thumbnails in the recent posts widget on my own site?

Also, is there a way to display recent posts for just one category?

    Thanks.

  • Hello,

Go to Dashboard > Appearance > Widget and add >>Recent Post Widget in your Default Sidebar. You must have Ocean Extra Plugin installed on your site.

Thank you Amit. I’ve done that though, and it’s just showing the regular recent posts without any thumbnails. Any suggestions?

Did you add featured image in your post? Can you share your site link so that I can check it?

Hi Amit. It’s only on a local test server so far.

The posts all have featured images set. I used the oceanwp demo importer plugin to import the ‘travel’ theme.

Quite a few elements of the sidebar did’t look right, or were missing.

Can you please share screenshots of the issue?

    Thanks Amit.

This first screenshot, is after I install oceanwp and the ‘travel’ demo, on my local machine. I selected all the options, while going through the download demo process (using the oceanwp demo download plugin thing).

You can see the sidebar looks very different.

I’d like to get the recent posts with thumbnails. Also, the other widgets in the sidebar are interesting, but don’t appear after downloading it using the oceanwp demo downloader.

If you can advice, what steps should I take to get the recent posts thumbnails?

    Thanks.

    Hello,

You are using the Recent Post widget of the WordPress. Try to use >>Recent Post widget of the OceanWP to get this type of layout.
Did you install the Ocean Extra plugin?

    Hi Amit,

Yes, I have the Ocean Extra plugin installed and activated.

I can’t seem to find anything resembling >>Recent Post though. There is only a Recent Post widget in Appearance > Widgets.

Where do I find the ‘>>Recent Post’ widget or how to add it to sidebar?

    Thanks for your patience.

    Hi,

It should be in the Dashboard > Appearance > Widget. Can you send the screenshot of the widget page?

I can’t see anything other than the standard wordpress widget for recent posts.

Is it possible the demos on the oceanwp site are using some third party plugins or widgets?

It’s very strange. Can you tell me the PHP version of your hosting server? Try to upgrade it if it is not PHP7. Also, try to reinstall the Ocean Extra plugin.
You can use the third-party plugin as per your need but to import a demo, you must have OceanWP required plugin.

    PHP Version 5.5.38

It’s on a test server, running on local machine (Mac). Possibly that’s the issue?

If so, it I’ll try it out on my hosting server; they’ll be on the latest version of PHP for sure.

Okay, please try to update the PHP version and let me know it fixes the issue or not.

Okay, tried it out on hosts server, and works fine, all the ocaenwp widgets are available. Also, just updated php on my Mac, and likewise, all oceanwp widgets agailable there.

I’d suggest you have some kind of popup with the extra plugin. Detect if the required version of php is not available, and display a message to user, along the lines of “some functionality (like widgets) will not be available until you upgrade to latest php”.

    Just a suggestions.

Anyhow, thanks again for your help.

Glad to hear that it is fixed and thank you for your suggestion. We will look into this.
