• Hi,

I can’t work out why thumbnail images show up for posts on my home page, but when you click on a category, all the posts in that category show up with blank grey boxes for thumbnails. Why don’t the same thumbnail images carry across to category pages?

    See https://www.thewindupsheep.com

    Thanks very much,

    Agnes

    Hello,

I still can’t work this out, and think I might have to ditch this theme altogether if I can’t fix the thumbnail images on category pages. I feel sure there must be an obvious solution to this issue, but I can’t figure it out.

    Can anyone help? Please?

    Thanks,

    Agnes

Hi Agnes, When I click on a category I see the grey boxes, then when I went into one of the posts there is no featured image at the top. Its my understanding that the post has to have an assigned featured image in order to shop up in that categories page. I’m no expert, but I hope that helps you.

Amazing – that worked, thank you so much.

However, if I set an image from a post as the featured image, that makes it appear at the very top of the post as well as wherever I already placed it in the post. Is it possible to prevent this? I don’t want the same image to appear twice in one post, or to necessarily have to have an image right at the top of every post, which is why I’ve avoided using featured images until now. But perhaps I will just have to change my ways if there is really no way around it.

Having said that, I notice that the featured image comes out cropped, too, so in some cases it wouldn’t be a suitable replacement for a regular post image in any case. So I’m really hoping this is preventable…

    Thanks,

    Agnes

My understanding is that these theme requires the featured image. On my blog I’ve opted to use the featured image alone when I don’t have another image to share within the post. To crop the image so that it looks good you should try using a plugin called post thumbnail editor. The plugin lets you crop your photos to fit in each photo position that the theme calls for.
