    Dear Mr Breetvelt

I have read your topic “CSS for Twenty Seventeen”. Is what you wrote there still required today? My album seems to function well without, however…

Recently I have converted my site https://www.magoster.nl from theme Weaver to theme Twenty Seventeen. Glad to have done that!
But now I see that the thumbnail images beneath the photo are not shown anymore. Is that due to wrong table settings? It showed well under theme Weaver as you can see on https://www.vakantiehuisverhuur.eu which will later undergo the same operation.

    Do you have a medicine?

    Cheers

Probably you have a html compression plugin active like W3TotalCache.

Please read this ducumentation page especially Dont’s item 2, also the text below the screenshot.

Yeah, I am using Autoptimze and WP Supercache. In settings Autoptimze “optimize HTML” had been activated. Disactivating it solved the problem.

I guess optimizing html is preferable so later on I will try to do this:

Alternatively, you can tick the box in Table IV-A19: Lazy or HTML comp. The filmstrip will also display properly, but it will drop performance.

But do you think that that would be usefull? I will never have more than 18 photo’s in an album.

Thanks again for your help sofar!!!

    Please do not.

The few comments in the html page source do not really make your page slow and are very usefull for debugging. The filmstrip images are commented by html comment tags and activated (the comment tags are removed one by one) when the thumbnail image almost comes into sight, so the thumbnail files are only loaded when they are going to be needed.

The performance improvement of this is much more than the improvement from html compression. Loading just one filmstrip thumbnail image causes more data traffic (several kb’s) than the removal of all html comments from an avarage pge.

If you tcik IV-A19, all filmstrip images are immediately loaded when the page is loaded initially; this is always (much) slower than html compression can achieve.

Every optimization has its price, and i think you can better rely on built-in dedicated optimizations than on global oprimization techniques that optimize regardless of the precious designed content of the page.

Also do not use ‘lazy load’ techniques, they will also give you problems.

Mr Breetvelt, you’re the wppa-boss! So I won’t alter the table and leave it as it is.

Thanks again, I am gracefull for this support!

    Cheers
