Thumbnails Not Generating
-
I recently upgraded to the newest version and the new pdfs that I’m adding are stuck in the adobe acrobat pdf thumbnails. I’ve deactivated & reactivated and it’s the same. When in the settings, I go to Thumbnail manager and the new pdfs that I add are not listed in the pdf manager tab.
How do I fix this?

Hi Amy,
If purge your thumbnail cache (select all in Thumbnails tab, then delete), then enable logging under the Advanced tab, then re-visit where you are using the PDFs, what is logged in the logging tab?
-Dan
PS: If you’ve found this plugin useful, please take a moment to rate it. Thanks! ??
A bunch of error messages are shown.
Doing that really made matters worse.
It seems like with every update, something new goes wrong. Is there a way I can download an older version that actually works?
Amy,
If you actually want help you are going to need to be more helpful than to say “a bunch of error messages”. Can you tell me what the error messages are, please.
PDF thumbnail generation is reliant of your server to have certain utilities installed. If they are not or if they are incorrectly configured then there is nothing that DG can do so without knowing what errors your system is experiencing there is no way to know whether a downgrade would do you any good.

Here is what one of the error messages consists of:
ERROR

Amy,
You’re running version 4.0 which has a number of known issues. What you will need to do is uninstall DG, then do a clean install.
You’ll want to copy off your custom CSS somewhere safe so that you can re-add it in your clean install.
-Dan
Dan,
I respect you tremendously as this is one of my favorite plugins! I understand that your job is not easy. Please excuse my moment of frustration, I did not mean to disrespect you in any way. A portion of my job depends on your plugin and if it fails, it comes down on me. In the past, I have been able to resolve issues on my own but this time is different.
I will uninstall and re-install, then update this post. Thanks!
No problem. We’ve all been there ??
If the uninstall/reinstall doesn’t resolve the issue, the other thing that has worked when resolving the early
4.x
issues is to go into the database and delete the DG settings. To do that you’ll want to run the following in your DB:DELETE FROM wp_options WHERE option_name = 'document_gallery'
Let me know if you’re still having issues once you’ve tried these two things and I’ll be happy to work with you further.
-Dan
I’m not sure if I did that correctly. I’m a newbie to the technical stuff.
I put “DELETE FROM wp_options WHERE option_name = ‘document_gallery'” into a notepad and then uploaded it to the document gallery folder in the database through 1and1.
Is that correct?
No thumbnails are generating whatsoever as you can see here:
Amy,
Can you please share what is being logged now? You’ll first want to purge everything in the Thumbnail Management tab to force DG to re-generate (that way we can see what’s going on once logging is enabled).
With the DB query, I’m not familiar with 1and1, so maybe?? We can come back to that once I have a better idea what is going on post-upgrade.
Also, on a related note, in the Advanced tab, is there a path set for ghostscript? What is it?
-Dan
Dan,
Once I re-installed the plugin, there were still no thumbnails in the Thumbnail Management tab. There haven’t been thumbnails in the Thumbnail Management tab since you instructed me to purge it the first time.
In the Logging tab:
February 4, 2016 3:01 pm DETAIL (DG_Thumb::initThumbs) Populating thumbnail cache.
February 4, 2016 2:45 pm DETAIL (DocumentGallery::doShortcode) Generation Time: 0.01 s
February 4, 2016 2:45 pm DETAIL (DG_Thumb::initThumbs) Populating thumbnail cache.
February 4, 2016 2:45 pm DETAIL (DocumentGallery::doShortcode) Generation Time: 0.01 s
February 4, 2016 2:45 pm DETAIL (DG_Thumb::initThumbs) Populating thumbnail cache.
February 4, 2016 1:18 pm DETAIL (DocumentGallery::doShortcode) Generation Time: 0.01 s
February 4, 2016 1:18 pm DETAIL (DG_Thumb::initThumbs) Populating thumbnail cache.
February 4, 2016 1:17 pm DETAIL (DocumentGallery::doShortcode) Generation Time: 0.01 s
February 4, 2016 1:17 pm DETAIL (DG_Thumb::initThumbs) Populating thumbnail cache.That is repeated for another 30 rows, with different times of course.
In the Advanced tab, the path set for ghostscript is: /usr/bin/gs
I apologize for my ignorance when it comes to this technical stuff, I’m slowly learning.
Interesting… Ok. Can you tell me what is in the textbox at the bottom of that Advanced tab? I need to figure out if your options are corrupt — if they are, we need to go back to the DB command I was talking about.
And no worries! We all start somewhere! ??
