  • Hm, yeah, this is strange indeed!

But is it possible to change the size of that featured image into some other dimension that our plugin would hopefully extract correctly? Say 180×180 or 250×250?

Although I cannot be sure if this will help you out with this issue, since our plugin is not the only one completely responsible on how your thumbnails will look like at the end. But do let me know if this is possible or if it helped in any way.

    Thanks & take care!

Ok Silvo, I will try and get back to you.

    Hi Silvo

I have a screenshot of the problem.

The first and last photo of the first row are normal thumbs, the other three in that row are stretched and have black bars at the top and bottom of the thumbnail.

Does Zemanta place these bars on the thumbnail, causing it to distort?

I will try changing the dimensions of the featured image and see how it goes

Hey John, just one quick question — did you make any changes to your theme editor in the past? If so, which ones?

Besides that — no, our plugin should not add any black stripes to your thumbnails, it should just take care that they stay “square-ish”, but without being squeezed or squashed (at least in the latest version of it).

Also — did you manage to change the sizes of those featured images/thumbnails in your built-in video embedder?

    Thanks for all your feedback!

    Have a nice weekend!

I have 1 post that doesn’t display a thumbnail in your plugin even though the image appears to be attached in the same way as the others. 0 featured.
Thought you might like knowing about it for comparison. I think maybe it doesn’t like how small it is…

Hey, thanks for the link, and yes, I’m afraid you are right — our plugin cannot extract thumbnails from images that are smaller than 150×150 pixels.

I would strongly recommend you to use images that are bigger than this in your future blog-posts, if you wish to have non-generic thumbnails in your related posts.

And do let me know if you have any additional questions regarding our service or if you need any assistance — I’m here to help!

Take care & have a nice day!

This thread is helpful, but didn’t quite address a problem I’m having. I have your plugin installed at https://www.liberatenet.org and some posts aren’t having thumbnails grabbed from them. I have put images into many of those posts, but there are many that are still showing up in the related posts with the default thumbnail. The images are all larger than 150×150. Are there other characteristics that images must have to be picked up by the plugin?

Hey Nick, thanks for reaching out & I’ll gladly help!

Would you please be so kind and send me the link to those exact posts which have those related posts with the generic thumbnails? I tried to look them up myself, but was unfortunately unable to do so. Or have you somehow solved this in the meantime?

Let me know, I’ll do my best to help you out!

Take care & have a nice weekend ahead!

Well, now I can’t find one either. I did update the plugin a while before I posted here, but it’s possible that it just took WordPress a bit longer to aggregate images from all the posts. In any case, I don’t seem to have a problem at the moment. Thank you for your responsiveness…I’ll come back if I have an issue!

Hey Nick, yes, WordPress has it’s own periods when it’s extracting your images for your thumbnails, which is why you had to wait a little bit to get the right results. Either way —?I’m happy this case is now resolved for you.

If you happen to have any more questions or if there’s anything else not completely clear — do not hesitate to ask, since I’ll gladly help!

Take care & have a nice day!

    FYI

I just found this post which helped me figure out that Related Content by Zemanta version 1.2.2 was causing my images to disappear when posted. I downgraded to version 1.2.1 and I’m no longer having this issue. The issue I’m having still is when I reuse a image from the media library it reuploads the old image which now shows as the latest image. So now I have two copies of the same image. When Zemanta plugin is disabled I can use old images and it doesn’t make a duplicate copy.

Hey, thanks for the follow up, although we’re not completly sure what’s going on over there — which images are disappearing when posted? Your own ones, which you inserted in your posts or the thumbnails from your related posts? Are they just missing out or are they disappearing from your Media Gallery?

Any chance you could send us the link to the blog in question, so we could have a closer look at it? We’d really appreciate it, if possible.

Let us know, we’re eager to help! Take care & have a nice weekend!

    Silvo,

Thanks for your prompt reply. When I add old images from the media library into a new post. The image displays fine within the post prior to posting the article. After the article is posted; the image that was shown within the post is now a blank white space with just the alt text. When I check the media library it appears as if it tries to reupload the image. Once I disabled the Zemanta 1.2.2 plugin this issue no longer exist. So I deleted the plugin and installed Zemanta 1.2.1 and the issue with the white space is no longer happening. I believe I still have screenshots of what was happening as I already corrected the issues with the posts prior to making a post here.
