    Hi There,

I am not able to see thumbnails of pictures that I uploaded from November 2012 and earlier. When trying to add those files from my media library to the post they exist in I get the broken image symbol.

    I have
    -changed themes
    -disabled all plugins
-cleared my cache, exited firefox 52.0.2, launched the browser again and the result is the same
-also tried chrome and that has the same result
-checked permissions on the root folder which is 755 and the files are 644
-changed permissions on the file to 755 with no change
-downloaded file, renamed file, re-uploaded file with no change
-downloaded files, renamed folder, created new folder, uploaded files

the strange thing about this is the uploaded date showed the previous uploaded date in 2011 and not 2017. I probably should have stopped here as I feel like I am missing something. Seems like something is off in the db so I checked that.

-removed tables for all previous theme which was photocrati

removed one picture from my blog post and it still shows up in the post which is odd.

my thinking is that if I can reconcile why dec 2012 picture is showing properly then I should be able to fix the remainder of the thumbnails for my pictures from november 2012 and earlier.

if anyone has experienced this or can help out I would greatly appreciate it.

    Thank you
    Craig

  • Hello Craig,

Start by ensuring that all your files are up to date, and that your WordPress website is currently running the most recent version of WordPress and all activated WordPress plugins.

Make a full backup of your WordPress website files, including your database.

Try deactivating all of your plugins, then checking your thumbnails. If the issue resolved, then your problem is one of the plugins you just deactivated. Try reactivating them one at a time, checking the Media Library in between, until you pinpoint which plugin is creating the problem.

Assuming none of the above suggestions resolve the greyed-out or blank thumbnail problem for you, then this final suggestion most likely will: First please download, install, and activate the free ‘Force Regenerate Thumbnails’ plugin from the WordPress Plugin Directory.

If you would rather simply try to sort out the specific images for which you’re seeing the greyed-out icon, please navigate to your Media Library page. Hover your mouse over the image in question, and you’ll see the Force Regenerate Thumbnails text link pop up underneath the image file name.

Now click that link to regenerate the thumbnail for that particular image only. After the plugin has completed its task and the thumbnails are regenerated, you’ll see a summary page showing how long the process took, and whether the process was successful for the images selected.

    Hope this helps! ??

    Hi chemicloud,

Thank you for the last suggestion of ‘Force Regenerate Thumbnails’ plugin. This seems to have fixed my issue.

The only problem I have now is that I removed one image which oddly is still showing so I will need to export a row from a backup and import that into my current db and then I will be done ??

    Take Care
    Craig

You are most welcome, Craig. Take care and have a good one! ??
