Thumbnails are not responsive

I am trying to make the thumbnail 100% width so it will be responsive, but the settings do not allow percentages. I tried hacking the code to allow it and adding styles and just kept running into problems with the slide show being too narrow because it did not like the 100%. Since this is supposed to be a responsive slide show, shouldn’t it allow percentages? I do not like adding a fixed value for the thumbnail because when you view it on smaller devices, it does not respond and exceeds the width of the content. I purchased the pro version, btw, and the price was great — now I see why it was so low.
