    Hi, I want my featured image thumbnail that shows on the homepage for each post to be square. I uploaded a square image but it crops the top and bottom into a rectangle. Can I change it to a square? If not, can I get the measurements of the set size for those thumbnail spaces so I can create an image accordingly?

    Hello Naomi,

    The post featured images are cropped down to 340×220.
    This custom size is defined in functions.php.

    Am I able to change it in functions.php or will it go crazy and ruin everything? I’m very inexperienced with code so very cautious.

    You should be able to easily change it, just search for the values that I provided above.
    Once you change a custom size, you will have to install, activate and run a plugin like Regenerate Thumbnails.
