• Hi,
I was wondering if it is possible to genertate thumbnails without having the necessities on the server ( well, the host is shared). Please advise.

Yes. The main requirement for thumbnails is that the video must be playable in your browser, so without any special server-side software you can make thumbnails from MP4 WEBM or OGV videos in most web browsers. Have you tried making thumbnails with my plugin and it doesn’t work?

Thank you for the response. Actually it is working with internal uploads, yet the check box for setting the thumbnail as featured image is disabled, any ideas why?
And the thing which is of most importance to me is the “Embed Video from URL”. In that section, I paste a direct link and doesn’t matter how much I wait, no thumbnail is generated. Can you please help me with these two problems I have?
Oh, BTW the format is MP4 480p AVC, H264.

So any ideas? Is there a special codec or something which should be installed on windows?

Generating thumbnails in the Embed Video from URL tab requires FFMPEG. If you don’t have FFMPEG, the plugin uses a <canvas> element to create the thumgnail, which doesn’t allow saving images to the server when the video comes from another domain, for security reasons I don’t control.

The featured image checkbox being disabled is a bug. Thank you for bringing it to my attention.

Today’s update version 4.6.13 should fix the disabled featured image checkbox.
