I installed to Image Gallery plugin yesterday.
For my first gallery, I went ?masonry” with the total default settings.
It gave me exactly what I was looking for:
    https://www.sweetnevil.com/gallery/

You’ll notice that the picture sizes and shapes vary: i.e. some are vertical, some are horizontal, some are square, etc.
On this page, they kept their shape but altered their sizes to fit in the columns… which is what I want.
In essence; each thumbnail displays the complete image without cropping.

I then created a second gallery using the exact same configurations, but I got different results.

Some of the horizontals images have been cropped in the gallery thumbnails, but when you click them they are the full images.

    Why is this happening?
    How do I fix it?

    Thank you,
    Jeff

Yes, it actually depends on the original image size. The gallery does some tricks to build the layout properly, but unfortunately every image’s original size it’s a start point for the gallery layout building.

If you wish we can check all images of the gallery closer to find a solution for your problem.
