Thumbnail Issues

Can you drop a note to us at info @ contextly.com with urls for both 1 and 2.

The replacement of the images does take a little time due to caching, but would like to see if something’s not working the way it should.

FYI, I need to disable the plugin for now, since I can’t control what thumbnails appear. If you need to see further examples, let me know and I can either re-enable it temporarily or create a clone for test purposes.

However, when I go to that page…:

…the Contextly metadata (contextly-page) indicates this is the featured image you updated:

But that url does not appear to be valid. It redirects back to your home page. Did you intend to use one of the following urls as the featured image?:

I’ve restored the missing image, but I have not set any featured image for that particular post, so I’m not sure why that one is coming up.

Did you intend to use one of the following urls as the featured image?

Any of the photos pulled from within that post would be appropriate for a thumbnail. Images pulled from the sidebar, as the ad image is, would not.

The default behavior for deciding what image to use is:

1) Look for featured image.
2) If featured image does not exist, look for image in the Open Graph tags
3) If Open Graph image does not exist, use the largest image within the body of the page

For the pages in question, we used 3), i.e. the ad images are the largest images within the body of the page.

For example, this image…:

…is found on line 304 of the page source. The body tags start on line 93 and end on line 343.

For posts that I haven’t yet assigned a featured image to, will the thumbnail update automatically once I do assign one? If so, how much time should I allow for that to happen?

The thumbnail is supposed to update automatically once you assign an image AND that page has been requested by a user (i.e. executes our javascript). However, that may not be happening at this point. There is a request on our side to look into the issue. I don’t expect this to be finished in the next 1-2 days.

It’s working perfectly now, and I must say I’m very impressed with Contextly so far.
