• When I upload an image to a post, no matter what I do, it ends as a square thumbnail. If the original image is not square, it is squashed to fit. See here:-

    https://www.ellybooks.co.uk/

When adding an image into a post, I do not have any size options at all (small, medium… etc). I can only add it as “full size”. I have the same issue when adding images to the media library. Edit image makes no difference.

In settings >> media, there are parameters for size of the small, medium and large images, but nothing I seem to do in this section makes any difference. I still only have “full size” in the drop down menu.

I tracked down the size of the thumbnail to the CSS as forced to be 120×120. I took this part of the code out in my child theme, but it is over-ridden by the CSS in the parent theme.

I don’t want square images, as I am a publisher and the images I will be using are book covers which are rectangular. You can see the horrible squashed square cover of Matchmaker Cat on one of my tests posts.

I am using the Supernova theme, which was all going swimmingly until this major hitch. Thumbnails are original size when switching to TwentyFourteen, but still the only option I have when inserting image is “full size”.

I had hoped to use WP Retina x2 plugin to make the site compatible to retina displays and this advises never to insert images at full size.

Sorry this is long, hope this is all the information you need to help. Many thanks for reading this.

Thank you for your quick response. I am glad you that you are on the case.

I had a search for the problem, but didn’t see anyone had reported it. I look forward to seeing your solution

Thank you for doing this. However, it doesn’t seem to work.

I unzipped the file on the above link and uploaded it into the Supernova theme folder, overwriting what was there before (which I assume is correct).

I have tried adding some posts with a picture in them. The picture is still a squashed square. In addition, when you click on the title of the post to go to the full page, it displays the squashed square picture plus a full size version of the image.

Also, in the front page of the blog, paragraphs are not respected. The lines just run on after each other.

I’ve since found in SuperNova options, in the advanced tab, there is an option called “featured image” which allows the double picture to be turned off in the full page. So I did that.

Thumbnails are still squashed squares, though. And paragraphs are not respected.

Sorry about that. I’d hoped the update had fixed it.

Okay , I see, dont worry the theme would go live after a week I’ll fix it before that.

    I hope its fixed now.

Thanks for looking at this so quickly. I uploaded the new version. It doesn’t seem to make any difference.

I’m going to drop over a couple of notes on your support page, seeing as you appear to be updating this too.

The squashed square thumbnails seem to be created by CSS line 222 that begins: “.post img.attachment-thumbnail…”. Part of this line limts the thumbnail to: “width:120px;height:120px;”. I simply removed this code and my thumbnails are squashed anymore. A work-around, but it solved the issue.

As for the lack of paragraphs, this seems to be buried in the code. I’ve found where it’s coming from, but can’t sort it. I think it’s supposed to be a “feature” of the theme. As I say, I will say more on the support page.
