Thumbnail grid gallery problem

I’m trying to insert a gallery on my homepage made by 3 photos (900 × 672) and i want them to be one above the other as big as possible. The problem is that the only gallery type that allows me to decide on how many colums i want to display the images is the Thumbnail Grid, but if i choose 1 column, doesnt matter what size i choose, the images just dont appear. Is there a way to fix this? Or, in general, what’s the best way to show one or more big images on the front page that lead with a click to a gallery?
