Thumbnail Display Error

When we load our website in various web browsers (including mobile), the text in the WordPress Popular Posts displays properly but the thumbnails do not. Instead, a dot appears where the post thumbnail should be display:

We are using WordPress 5.7.2.
We are using PHP 7.4.21.
How do we make WordPress Popular Posts display properly 100% of the time?
