Thumbnail display anomaly

My thumbnails have a box to the left of the image. It appears that it is supposed to be the container for the image. The image here https://www.requinbase.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/chrome_2020-01-12_10-32-01.png is what is happening. I have this issue on more than one site. I have been through all kinds of setting and I can’t figure out how to correct this.

Can you please help me either remove the box or make it look like it belongs.
