Unable to drag thumbnail box into a column

In the preview item builder (list), I am unable to drag the thumbnail box into a column. I am trying to create a listing layout like this

The thumbnail item (when dragged) is full-width only, so it can only be placed above or below the column. This is ok for “grid” view, however, for “list” view it needs to be in a column.

This is what I am not able to do

Not sure if this is a bug.
