    Hi,

I did remove the “edit” pencil in 1.4.1 (June 2016) due to previous feedback citing space concerns on admin dashboards so it’s not surprising to hear that it “missing”. However, you should still be seeing the wording “Set featured image” if no featured image has been set for a post.

Do you know if you recently upgraded any other plugins perhaps? Perhaps there is a conflict?

And assuming you can test it would be great if you could disable all other plugins except Featured Image Admin Thumb and see if the wording returns and the plugin still performs as expected. Then we might be able to troubleshoot some more.

Also, if you only recently upgraded Featured Image Admin Thumb check that all the files we downloaded and installed – perhaps delete and re-install the plugin.

I am not aware of any incompatibility with the most recent release of WordPress so it is unlikely to be related to that.

You might also look in your browser console to see if the admin page is generating any errors on page load.

So, I’m not sure what could be causing this but any further information you can provide would be helpful.

Thank you for using my plugin.

    Thanks for the reply, Sean!
I tried deactivating all other plugins, and I tried reinstalling this one, and I tried using a different browser/computer… but still no good.
Any idea of what else we can look into?

Are you able to look in your browser console when viewing the admin dashboard?

With Chrome you can Inspect element, click on Console and then refresh the admin page.

If you see some errors then perhaps attach another screenshot showing those.

Other than that I have also tried a clean installation of WordPress and just my plugin active and it works as expected.

Is there any more information you can gather about your circumstances?

If you are still unable to continue then the only thing left is for you to grant me access to your site and possibly to your hosting environment to see if there’s something I can see.

    Are you still experiencing difficulties?

I am having difficulty replicating the issue and am not sure what else I can suggest unless you have any further detail to share.

    Thank you

    Hi Sean

Sorry for taking long to answer – I was trying to figure out what other information I could have on this issue.

I asked my webhost for help and they’re looking into possible incompatibilities. Let’s see if they can help us fix it ??

    OK, great.

Recall I suggested checking your browser console to see if it was generating errors on your All Posts screen:

Are you able to look in your browser console when viewing the admin dashboard? With Chrome you can right click / Inspect element, click on Console and then refresh the admin page.

If you see some errors then perhaps attach another screenshot showing those.

If you can do this it might help me out a little more.

    Thank you

    Hi Sean
It seems that the plugin sets an invalid image as default, preventing the “set featured image” link to appear.

Have a look at this series of printscreens:

Any ideas on how to fix this?
    Thanks again!

Regarding the browser console – yes, it shows an error message ??

    Hi,

So from what I can determine based on your reports if a post has a featured image set but that featured image id is blank or invalid then my plugin doesn’t know how to handle that and just displays a blank.

However, when you manually set the featured image to a valid image the correct featured image id is set and my plugin read and displays that successfully.

My plugin doesn’t set an invalid image as a default either but it does sound like there is or was missing media / uploads and that prevented my plugin from displaying anything based on featured image ids that did not resolve correctly.

I will see if I can improve my plugin to better handle this issue in the future.

Thank you for using my plugin.
