I am seriously considering switching from wp default permalinks to either date & name based or a custom structure.

I have nearly 1000 entries, some of which link to each other, and I am concerned that if I do change the permalink structure then things could go a little screwy.

I guess what I am asking is is it too late to switch… and also what are people’s opinions in general of the best “type” of permalink?

I don’t know if it is relevant, but I use the falbum plugin, so that has a nice long complicated looking url at the moment :-/

Hi – sorry to bump but I really would like to know if it’s not advisable to switch to friendly urls with such a large amount of entries.

    Thanks.

Well, default URLs will still work just as well as they ever did, switching doesn’t affect that.

The best type of URL is probably the shortest but most useful. Mine are of the form beingmrkenny.co.uk/blog/YYYY/MM/post-slug.

That way, it’s easy for people to hack the URL to get to a monthly or yearly archive. IMHO, having the day doesn’t add anything useful unless you post loads every day.
