@normancates Thanks for the report. It may be related to this, which seems to have crept in to BuddyPress 2.9.3 unannounced. Reverting back to 2.9.2 for the time being may work, but I’ll test on Monday to see what else might be up.

@normancates It appears that I was wrong about the changeset I linked to – that’s not in fact part of BP 2.9.3 and cannot therefore be the cause of what you’re seeing. However, I cannot replicate your symptoms with the latest stable WordPress, BuddyPress and BP XProfile WordPress User Sync… so I have to ask the obvious questions:

• Which version of WordPress & BuddyPress are you running?
• Do you have any other plugins active that could be affecting the situation?
• Are there any other customisations on your site?

I’m running WP 4.9.3, BP 2.9.3

Now, I tried removing BP XProfile WordPress User Sync and then re-adding.

And it did work in my main site. I changed the first and last names, and it worked great. On both the BP profile and the Dashboard profile.

But I then went to a sub-site and it wasn’t working properly. It didn’t show the First Name and Last name fields in the Profile>View section. Just the Name. But in the Profile>Edit section, it DOES show First Name and Last Name.

And then I went back to the main site, and it had changed the Profile section to being like the subsite. ie. Not working properly.

So, it seems there’s a problem across subsites?

I’ve got a fair number of plugins installed, although most are not active. There’s a fair number of Theme related plugins…

There’s no other XProfile plugins running.

Not sure how much help that is?

So do you have a plugin that enables multiple BuddyPress instances (e.g. BuddyPress Multi Network or BP Multi Network) because AFAIK links to BuddyPress user profiles always point to the main site when it is network-activated. Or is BuddyPress activated on each sub-site separately to the main site? In short, which of the architectures listed under “Multisite & Multiple Networks” here does your install have? And how is BP XProfile WordPress User Sync activated?

That sounds right to me.

I’m still confused about this. If BuddyPress is network-activated, then all Profile>View links point to the relevant page on the main site. I’m curious why yours don’t.

This is expected behaviour. You’ll have to have a look at the bp_xprofile_wp_user_sync_exclude_fields filter in order to change this. Full documentation is in the code.

So I dug around a bit more.

I have also enabled:

define( ‘BP_ENABLE_MULTIBLOG’, true );

So that users aren’t taken to another sub site when tweaking profiles…

Does that have an effect?

My apologies, but yes that could well have an effect – I have to admit that I’ve never tested the plugin with that setup.
