    Can the plugin get reviewed and maybe updated?
    Even if it’s just to raise the release number.
    I’m getting alerts and this would be considered GDPR incompliant ?? (and I like the plugin)

  • since none of the support requests are getting any replies for a long time now, I think we can consider this plugin dead and no longer supported. The developer may even be dead for all we know, these things happen.

    Is there any way one can take over this plugin we cannot afford to lose this plugin

    I am no longer relying on a plugin to do this.
    Instead I using GISTS and posting them instead.

    embedding gists has nothing to do with gdpr.

    Embedding something on your site that makes a connection to another website has a lot to do with GDPR and is the reason people had to stop using Google Fonts.

    you clealry need to read-up on gdpr then.
    This complete lack of understanding of what gdpr is about and what is required is what has resulted in such widespread panic.

    It’s not panic, it’s the law. And there has already been people getting letters from attorneys for their use of Google Fonts here in Germany. The IP of a user is considered personal data and under GDPR you can’t just send the users IP around without his consent.

    As plugins are GPL anyone can fork a new version and publish that e.g. as “Crayon Syntax Highlighter Reborn”

    So who’s going to do it? A lot of people really rely on this plugin.

    The only solution I can conceive is petitioning to popular plugin authors to adopt the plugin.

    As a plugin author – I’d ask is it commercially attractive to support this ( or a similar ) plugin? We ( plugin authors ) know now that the ‘donation model’ doesn’t work as simply no one donates and that is why many plugins get abandoned, as there is no incentive to keep putting in the work and support with no return.

    I’ve look at the code of this plugin and it isn’t trivial.

    I can only speak for me but I would pay a one time purchase fee without hesitation

    If the author is who i think he might be, this project probably was a university project and now he is a holding a significant software engineering post as a major company, so understandable that this takes little priority for him.

    However, the software still works perfectly for me on several sites, despite the ‘warnings’ that it hasn’t been updated.

    ( p.s. I have no idea why such warning ( I don’t get any ) have anything to do with GDPR, if the software is secure and doesn’t capture send user data the what ha sit to do with GDPR )
