After installing WooCommerce, I try to install Jetpack.
I get the following message on the add plugins page after searching for jetpack.
“This plugin doesn’t work with your version of WordPress. Please update WordPress.”
and at then end of the block “Incompatible with your version of WordPress”

WooCommerce says “Uh oh… There was a problem during the Jetpack and WooCommerce Services install. Please try again.”

https://tools.jetpack.com/debug give unknown error, I assume because jetpack is not installed.

There are no critical issues in Site Health Status.

    What should I check next?
    Cheers,
    Simon

Could you let us know what version of WordPress you are using? Also, are you able to include a link to the site?

I just looked at woocommerce status and saw “5.3.4 – There is a newer version of WordPress available (5.5.1)” yet Dashboard updates says “You have the latest version of WordPress.” That’s a bit odd isn’t it?

Also dashboard updates says “If you need to re-install version –, you can do so here:”

So I’m thinking of backing up some data and then installing a new version… is this guide ok? https://mytechguy.co.nz/wordpress/how-to-upgrade-version/

    Just found “if (!defined(‘WP_CORE_UPDATE’))
define(‘WP_CORE_UPDATE’, false);” in my wp-config.php file… Why would that be put there? (I’m pretty sure I didn’t do it)

If you have other site administrators, I’d encourage you to check in with them, as well as your host. You’ll want to safely get WordPress up to date.

@supernovia What are the next steps mate?

We are not able to update the version of WordPress your site is using (for you) so you are still on 5.3.4 you will not be able to install Jetpack.

Did someone set up your site for you? You may need to ask your site adminstrator to update the site for you if you are not able.

I am my site administrator and am self hosting. https://mytechguy.co.nz/wordpress/how-to-upgrade-version/ looks like a reasonable guide… I’ll google each step and get up todate. I’ll backup an instance of the virtual guest so if anything goes badly I can restore.

Thanks guys, I downloaded wordpress-5.5.1.zip and manually installed it. Jetpack now runs.. I do have an issue with akismet saying “Subscription Type
Akismet Personal (Free non-commercial license)” when https://akismet.com/account/ says “Spam protection for professional or commercial sites and blogs.”
    Do I raise that here?
