Isn’t this a copy of the Uncanny Owl Automator plugin? It looks like you ripped off the features and the UI… what’s going on?

    Hi @mrgaloshes

You will find that both plugin looks similar because both want to target the same feature, look like Zapier but on WordPress

Both UIs are similar because both has been based on the Zapier UI (from the past years, not the new one)

It’s like a product edit page on multiples ecommerce plugins you will find similar UI, fields or workflows but it’s mainly because users are accustomed to a distribution and some controls

    Best regards

Are you sure you just didn’t edit Uncanny’s code a little, and then release it as your own?

That’s what the buzz is in the community, and it’s giving your team a black-eye.

    Hi @mrshawntierney

The history behind AutomatorWP is simple

Our first big project, GamiPress, has the ability to award gamification elements when user performs something, for example, when user comments on a post award a badge

We got the idea to make AutomatorWP based on the ability of GamiPress to detect the WordPress events but including the possibility to the user to decide what happens after

On GamiPress: when user comments on a post, award a badge
On AutomatorWP: when user comments on a post, choose the action you want to happen

and any programmer can notice about it based on the great amount of similarities in code and features between GamiPress and AutomatorWP

With the GPL license (Which WordPress is licensed under, and subsequently all WP plugins), “ripping off” is actually encouraged. The nature of GPL encourages forking and dissuades the idea of proprietary code. It’s the reason so many great plugins exist, they often build on the strengths of other plugins.

Your best bet is throw your support towards the products/developers you believe in and let the chips fall. I’ve not often seen a “rip off” plugin succeed, but sometimes it does, and it’s for the better (e.g. WooCommerce vs Jiggoshop).

All that being said, I don’t think Ruben ripped anything off. He’s a hard worker and has already developed similar tools as he’s mentioned.

What is the meaning of OPEN SOURCE?
