• I like Gutenberg and I’ve been using the Twenty-themes for a decade. But this is a horrible experience. It is so confusing and unusable. If this is what WordPress 6.0 will be like, I’m concerned.

Hi @d9media, ouch, this is definitely not an ideal experience. ??

Twenty Twenty-Two is definitely different than the themes that have come before it, and there is certainly a learning curve. As Anne McCarthy put it, “As the first-ever default block theme, Twenty Twenty-Two invites you to explore full site editing and create a site that reflects your individual vision. This is a new approach to site building than what most are used to with WordPress…”

Just in case you’d ever like to give it another try, I wanted to offer a few resources to help you get going:

Learn about the Twenty Twenty-Two Theme and the various full site editing features it unlocks.

Learn about Block Themes and how they allow you to edit all parts of your site with blocks.

Take a course on Learn WordPress about how to build a site with full site editing and the Twenty Twenty-Two Theme

No matter what you decide, I wish you the best with your site-building.

Thanks, Kathryn. I got really fed up paying for a crappy theme and thought I’d try this freebie. Turns out, if you pay peanuts, you get monkeys.

You might just have saved me from going bonkers!

@tebx Thanks for the giggle, even if it’s too bad it sounds like you had a bad experience with Twenty Twenty-Two. If you do want to give it another shot, feel free to post in the support forum if you need any help with it.

I am also concerned. I would debate this theme locks developers into using the block system. Where there was a well defined template structure that had been refined for well over a decade, now there are only blocks.
Are you referring to being restricted to using the block editor as ‘full control’? This seems like WordPress for people that do not write markup. They use words like empower to describe it while I think hamstrung might be more apt. Many of us type much faster than anyone can click on that block editor.
How many stars does Gutenberg have again?

Hi @ususipse – I hear your concerns. Full Site Editing (FSE) is a new way of building WordPress sites and there’s a bit of a learning curve for most folks when using a block theme (one that supports FSE) for the first time. On the other hand, FSE provides a way to visually modify elements in a theme without code – like the navigation and logo, for example – that used to require either custom settings built into the theme, or custom CSS.

If you have any specific questions about using the block editor, FSE, or Twenty Twenty-Two in particular, I’d invite you to please post in one of the support forums, where folks will be better able to chime in. You’re also welcome to post your own review, if you’ve taken Twenty Twenty-Two for a spin and would like to share your opinion with others.

I’m going to go ahead and close d9media’s two-month-old review to new comments for now as I’ve already responded to their feedback and offered resources to help.

I do encourage you to start a new discussion in your own thread if you’d like to share further thoughts or questions. Thank you!
