Just upgraded and got a config error
This email address does not belong to the same domain as the site.
Our site needs the different domain as we are being redirected from another site using their domain
so each site on the network has to use their personal email account How do I fix it and if there is no way please ad a switch to turn that one feature off.

The situation is like this FROM email is [email protected] which is routed thru an SMTP server so leads make it to the clients destination since its an email service that requires verification. Then the responding email is set thru the header No-Reply: .. This is valid and used all over the place.
We do have it set correctly. Not every shoe fits every situation. Our clients don’t host their email on the same network / servers their websites are hosted on. When you have thousands of websites running off a cluster of web servers, clients use gmail, outlook, exchange, their own setup, their isp etc for email. We control the DNS but none of their email is on the same domain as the server so we have to use a smtp server for sending. Requiring us to setup an email then an smtp confirmation for thousands of websites is not practical.
Anyways.. not a big deal. But as others have said its just a nagging message that doesn’t go away without disabling it.
I understand what you are saying, but I think the fundamental problem is with the way Contact Form have evolved – they should never have been designed to send the contents of the form as an email. If the recipient wishes to reply to the sender, then they should click a link in the message, not reply to an email that came from your own website.
This is from SendGrid (a mass transactional and marketing email provider), which may help explain why Contact Form 7 has made the changes that everybody loves so much! ??

I just came across this thread since I was late to update my Contact Form 7 plugin. It was helpful, but I had a further “syntax error” on my Additional Headers field when I tried using the
Reply-to: [your-name] <[your-email]>
that was provided earlier in this thread.Maybe they changed the macro there in a more recent update, I’m not sure, but I found that it should be this instead:
Reply-to: [name] <[email]>

I would like to hug the person who mentioned the WP Rollback plugin, thank you!!! I have been using Contact Form 7 for 9 years and it is on every single clients website I build,(other than those who use gravity forms, which I love). Many people now use gmail and forward their domain email or do not want one. That is their choice. I was so sick of trying to fix these errors for 250 different websites. Rollback is much better. Of course now I have to tell them NOT to update one plugin, which sucks when you try to train them to keep everything updated. But this has been a true hassle with these new requirements. I am switching my form builder now after a long and happy time with Contact Form 7. Bummer

If the configuration error is due to the error message in the “From” field under the “messages” tab, then this error is very easy to fix.
The reason for this headache is in the misunderstanding of this field. We all understood The “From” field as a user email address, however the ones who built the form, want it to be a field that will indicate to the email’s receiver where the email originated. The answer to the problem is in the documentation https://kb.cf7skins.com/contact-form-7-email-issues/#spam where the developers explained that this field is suppose to have the same domain name as the website to avoid spamming.
for example if your website is: https://www.mywebsite.com, all you need to do is put the following data in the email field
From : [email protected]this email doesn’t need to be valid. so when the user submit the form, you will receive an email with from: wordpress <[email protected]>
if you want to replace that default “wordpress” in the from field, for example type in the From field: Contact Us Form <[email protected]> again [email protected] doesn’t need to be valid. most important to remember is mywebsite.com should match the domain name of your website.you may think where to put the user’s email address, you could add it in the message body. That is the way the contact form 7 developer came up with this preventing spams idea, I would have done it different way ??

I feel foolish, but after reading the comments I’m still confused. My texts are sent to a flip phone where the problem resides. On my PC, everything is fine when accessing the information in Outlook. These are my issues:
1) Mail Tab From Field: assume I’m Jon Doe and my website is ABCD.com Precisely how would be written into the mail tab.
2) Sometimes I don’t get the entire phone number in my text to my flip phone, but if I send myself an email from the contact form as a visitor to the website, I always get the entire number. Can someone be manipulating this?
3) Recently I don’t seem to get any comments from the “comments” part of the mail tab, or just a partial comment.
4) I get two text messages to my phone: one displays all the contact form fields with nothing and the other displays everything except for the problems described above. In my contact form 7, I set up both mail forms, each with a separate email address so that I have two copies. Only on one, I’m using Bcc: with my phone number @vtext.com which is Verizon so that it goes to a flip phone. Both email addresses on my PC receive the text messages correctly.Thank you to anyone that will help.
I found a fix for you because I had the same problem. In the from field, assume your website is ABBA.com, the syntax is exactly as I type it below:
[your-name] <[email protected]>
Where it reads [your-name], that’s is part of the syntax and isn’t anybody’s name in particular. It actually works and gets rid of errors and anything else that’s printed in red.
