Classic editor seems to work via shortcode insert.

I have tried adding the visual link preview block and fill-up required fields and its returning the error encountered cannot preview.

I have tested it also into a vanilla/clean new created wordpress website and still not working, still encountering the same error above.

I would expect a compatibility problem with a plugin or theme, but you mention it not working on a new WordPress site either?

What version of WordPress are you testing on? I don’t seem to be experiencing any issues on a clean site with only Visual Link Preview, the default Twenty Twenty-Three theme and WordPress 6.1.1.

I haven’t heard from anyone else with problems either.

Could you replicate the issue on a new https://instawp.com site so I can have a look?

I am also experiencing this issue. The visual link previews look fine on the front end of the website. But when I open the page in the block editor, some of the previews are fine and some of them say “This block has encountered an error and cannot be previewed.”

For example, on that page, all of the previews under Designing, Building, and Maintaining Outdoor Learning Spaces > Articles and Posts show the error message. But under Accessibility, Equity, and Inclusion > Articles and Posts, the preview block shows properly with no error message.

It’s most likely some kind of compatibility problem. Could you try using the Health Check plugin to test? We have a video in our documentation showing you exactly how to do that: https://help.bootstrapped.ventures/article/108-debugging-plugin-problems

Specifically the compatibility mode shown in the video where it basically tests a default theme and no other plugins active.

    This is fixed in v2.2.2.

Thanks, @tnchuntic. In v2.2.5, I’m getting a different error message in some Visual Link Preview boxes: “Error loading block: The response is not a valid JSON response.” Again, this does not affect the VLP block display on the front end, only in the editor. If I toggle the VLP block in the editor to “Edit as HTML” and then back to “Edit visually” it temporarily displays properly but shows errors randomly pop up again if I save changes and refresh the editor.

I installed the Health Check plugin to check for incompatibilities but it was a little more difficult to use in the editor than on a front end display. I suspect for me it may be a conflict with Kadence Blocks – Gutenberg Blocks for Page Builder Features because if I drag a VLP block that is throwing an error out of the Kadence accordion block, the error message disappears.

I think it’s a conflict with another plugin. For me, the block is working after I upgraded to v2.2.5. You can log a new ticket for your specific issue, that way you can directly communicate with the plugin author.
