There's good and bad
-
I had been looking for a great over-image share button for a while, knowing how important Tumbler and Twitter are for a good media blog, and this seemed like the best when it comes to the design and the options there are to change position and which services are shown, but there are some significant negatives.
The best things about this include the three color options, the selection of services you can show with the button, the assigning of it to images based on size (you’ll need this to prevent it appearing on the small images for themes which show a smaller tease image etc).
But there is one major flaw with this plugin, it doesn’t record any statistics of sharing, and resets the share indicator on page reload. If I share an image on Twitter and Tumblr, it indicates this on the icon and presumably (in theory) is supposed to show others how many times an image has been shared and where, but when you refresh the page that is all reset to zero.
For those interested in knowing where content is being shared (for SEO purposes and so on) it’s quite useless. This should be a core feature of the plugin, but it fails.
I’ll keep using it, because I am seeing an increase in traffic thanks to people sharing content and this is the best plugin for this I have found so far, but I just wish I had an idea of what people were sharing, how many times content had been shared, and where. And I really wish this was shown on the button for others to encourage them to share it too.
