    Hi There,

I’m new to this WooCommerce world and I’m getting this error:

There was a problem connecting this site to WordPress.com: “Your site host “wootalgiving.test” is on a private network. Jetpack can only connect to public sites.”

when clicking on the “Set up” button on my WooCommerce Payments page, I’m using MAMP to setup the WooCommerce website.

Also, it didn’t work with localhost as hostname

Any help to resolve the above error is much appreciated!

    Hi there! ??

Basically, what this means is that you cannot connect a local site hosted on a local server (Like MAMP, WAMP, XAMP, etc.) to the WordPress.com servers while using JetPack plugin. You will need to have a live site in order to connect it to WordPress.com

Regardless of that, if you are not interested in using the JetPack plugin at this moment and focus just on WooCommerce, then I’ll recommend you to skip this step in the meantime.

I hope this makes sense ??

    Hi Gabriel,

Firstly, thanks a lot for clarifying the doubt. I’ve been following the steps from the below guide and got the error on Step1:

    https://docs.woocommerce.com/document/payments/

and would like to learn further on how to set up the payments for WooCommerce on localhost without the JetPack plugin as you have suggested.

    Hi!

Yes, you can do that. However, please note that some features like payment gateways may not work correctly on local sites, for testing this you can go with a staging site instead. A staging site will be a copy of you live site if you have one.

You can test some payment gateways like Stripe Test Mode in your local test site.

With that being said, I am going to mark this topic as solved. You can create a new topic if you have any other questions.

    Best.
