    Dear fellow WordPress users,

Yesterday I received an email about my WordPress website having been automatically updated to version 6.2.6

I cannot even load the login page of my WordPress admin system.

When I try to visit my website from any device, now, I receive the following error:

There has been a critical error on this website. Please check your site admin email inbox for instructions.

    I don’t receive any email.

I disabled all the plugins, using both methods, by both:

? renaming the plugin folder via the file manager of the website control panel,

? and also by replacing the string in the “active_plugins” file with the recommended “a:0:{}” string. I made sure to save, refresh, and to also empty the website’s HiSpeed Cache via the control panel provided by the Hosting website.

But nothing changes. So, it’s not the plugins.

I also updated the PHP, trying both versions 8.2 and 8.3 and emptying the HiSpeed Cache of the Hosting company each time, but the problem persists.

I am not a programmer, but I went in my hosting company’s website (Aruba)’s control panel and I managed to find very few PHP options. I enabled the option to show errors. So, now, in addition to the above error message, it also says:

    Fatal error: Uncaught TypeError: call_user_func_array(): Argument #1 ($callback) must be a valid callback, function “_wp_footnotes_kses_init” not found or invalid function name in /web/htdocs/www.raysresearch.com/home/wp-includes/class-wp-hook.php:308 Stack trace: #0 /web/htdocs/www.raysresearch.com/home/wp-includes/class-wp-hook.php(332): WP_Hook->apply_filters() #1 /web/htdocs/www.raysresearch.com/home/wp-includes/plugin.php(517): WP_Hook->do_action() #2 /web/htdocs/www.raysresearch.com/home/wp-includes/pluggable.php(48): do_action() #3 /web/htdocs/www.raysresearch.com/home/wp-includes/user.php(3622): wp_set_current_user() #4 /web/htdocs/www.raysresearch.com/home/wp-includes/pluggable.php(70): _wp_get_current_user() #5 /web/htdocs/www.raysresearch.com/home/wp-includes/l10n.php(98): wp_get_current_user() #6 /web/htdocs/www.raysresearch.com/home/wp-includes/l10n.php(142): get_user_locale() #7 /web/htdocs/www.raysresearch.com/home/wp-includes/l10n.php(868): determine_locale() #8 /web/htdocs/www.raysresearch.com/home/wp-settings.php(561): load_default_textdomain() #9 /web/htdocs/www.raysresearch.com/home/wp-config.php(90): require_once(‘…’) #10 /web/htdocs/www.raysresearch.com/home/wp-load.php(50): require_once(‘…’) #11 /web/htdocs/www.raysresearch.com/home/wp-admin/admin.php(34): require_once(‘…’) #12 /web/htdocs/www.raysresearch.com/home/wp-admin/index.php(10): require_once(‘…’) #13 {main} thrown in /web/htdocs/www.raysresearch.com/home/wp-includes/class-wp-hook.php on line 308

Can anybody guess what is going on?

    Thank you all!

  • I have the same error message. I cannot log in or access my site in any way at all. The landing page sometimes appears, but after that it is just a white screen with:

There has been a critical error on this website.

@ethylmax my hosting provider replied to the ticket I opened.

They stated that the 6.2.6 version of WordPress is incompatible with recent versions of PHP. They downgraded to PHP 7.4 to make WordPress work again. So now I could login in WordPress dashboard, and I updated it to WordPress 6.5.5, then I updated to PHP 8.3 and it’s working.

    I also updated the plugins.

    I hope this helps.
