There has been a critical error on this website installing wordpress locally

    I am trying to install wordpress locally using XAMPP. I am going through the process of going through setup-config.php to create a wp-config.php file from the wp-config-sample.php file. After I input my database connection details and click submit, the next page tells me “There has been a critical error on this website.”. I understand I can also input my database connection details into a manually created wp-config.php file, when I do this I am still unable to access install.php.
