I was trying to up the memory limit.
I used a plugin called WP Memory and set it to 64mb (was at 40mb)
This caused the site to crash and now it is showing the error message.

if you can access the file manager in your webhosting plan (A2 hosting?) you can rename the plugin that caused the critical error to deactivate it.
