There are no categories to display

Are you using some custom post type? Are you sure there are enough post in selected categories? if there aren’t any it will show that message.

There are plenty of posts in the categories. By “enough” do you mean at least one? Not sure what you mean by custom post type.

Yes, i mean at least one post. I think i’ll need more data, like your excluded categoires or all of them to check how it works.

By custom type, is because some plugins or pages are configurated not as default posts, instead they’re another type with other fields, and they’re called custom posts.

I had a duplicate of the site up where I was testing your plugin but had to take it down because search engines were finding it. One goal of mine is to learn how to create a local version of a site for testing purposes but that still wouldn’t give me a way to show it to anyone else, like you for example. I only have the live site right now to experiment with.

That said, I just deactivated W4 Post List, and activated your plugin. Placed it in the sidebar. And tried these settings:
– I entered a title (that works great)
-trigger symbol: empty space
-symbol position: right
-effect: none
-Order by: Name ASC
-Expand: All
-Extra Options: Show number of posts (this is working when I see a category)
Parent expand sub-categories (I’ve tried this checked and unchecked)
-Categories to exclude: There are 64 categories. I’ve excluded 6 of them. One of the excluded categories is the parent category for all of the categories that I want to list. I don’t want an expanding list. I just want all categories to display in a long list all of the time. I’ve tried excluding the parent category and NOT excluding it, but none of the sub categories ever show. If I UN Exclude one of the categories that are top level categories they show in the list but I don’t want them to show. I’m thinking this is a matter of just having a setting or two not quite right. Please help.

Oh. And I don’t see any custom fields in the post entry pages. Is there any other way that I can see if they are custom type posts?

I just pulled one of the child categories out from its parent category and it shows in the list. I guess I’ll need to pull them all out but I’m wondering, isn’t there a way to show child categories in a long list that doesn’t expand? Or is the only way to show the whole list to make sure that they are at the top level?

You can avoid web crawlers when you copy your site at: Settings -> Reading -> Then uncheck Search crawlerss (This terms are not correct because I’m translating from english wordpress)

Oh i see, you if you hide a parent category then child category’s post won’t appear?

Seems like a bug or a feature that should be added, something like selecting the categories to show.

Right, I couldn’t make the child categories appear when the parent is hidden. I moved all the child categories to the top level so it is working for me now! In this particular site I didn’t need them to be children but in another situation that might not be the case. Also, thanks for the reminder about the setting in Reading > hide this site from search engines. Duh. I forgot about that. I’m happy that I found a plugin to replace the one I was using. Thank you.
