  • Hi Vinny,

The great thing about WordPress is themes can be swapped very easily with a minimal amount of configuration and most popular themes upgrade seamlessly. However, I’d recommend with going with a theme built by a company that actively maintains their themes, as the worst thing that can happen is to use a great theme and find out it hasn’t been used in years and doesn’t work with the newest version of WordPress. Definitely choose wisely.

    Have fun,
    Ben

The only thing to remember is that you should not modify any files in the core WordPress system, or your theme/plugins. If you stick to that, you’ll be fine in 99% of cases. The only issues come with older themes/plugins that aren’t updated to suit newer WordPress versions.

For themes, you can use a child theme. That will save any updating problems with your chosen theme overwriting any changes that you’ve made.

For plugins, it’s a fair bit harder as there’s no child plugin set up yet, so you have to rely on the plugins author to have action and filter hooks set up in the right places. Sometimes this happens, and sometimes it doesn’t.

I’ll keep this all in my mind and refer back to it once I get past choosing a theme lol….I usually just stick to the theme layout and don’t get to fancy….Once it’s up I usually just add content, change or add pics. I am pretty simple total newbie did JOOMLA for 5 years and a few sites…Really hate there upgrades and all the issues that comes with it…OK back to searching for a theme. Hard to pick one for my profession ??

    Thanks

Question about choosing wisely for a theme. Should I stick to theme link here or go searching around. How would I know if it’s a good company or if they give upgrades Besides asking and reading lol

    Nightmare picking a template grr

    Thanks

I think it’s support you should look for and not upgrades.
