• Hi all, I’m brand new to this, so bear with me ??

I’ve tried uploading a few different themes to version 2.5 and can’t get then to work properly. The new theme does show on the themes page, but at the bottom of the page I get this error message:

    Broken Themes

The following themes are installed but incomplete. Themes must have a stylesheet and a template.
    Name Description
    Stylesheet is missing.

I looked in the theme folders and found both the style.css file and the index.php file. What’s going on?

Any idea how to fix this?

    Thanks!

  • did you look in the theme folder that is on your server to make sure they uploaded? i would upload the stylesheet again just to make sure.

Yeah, they’ve uploaded as far as I can tell, like I said I’m WP newbie. I did it again and no dice. Same issue.

This has been happening with each new theme I try to add, and I’ve tried 4-5. I found these themes in the the 2.5 safe area as well, so it shouldn’t be a version issue.

all i can think of is youre uploading them in the wrong mode. what are you using to upload them?

I’m using Classic FTP for Mac

    Things to check:
    – double folder (i.e. wp-content/themes/yourtheme/yourtheme/
    – you didn’t happen to open the stylesheet of these themes on your mac with some mac editor, did you?

No double folder that I can see.

    Didn’t open any stylesheets.

I have also been having some trouble with most plugins I’ve tried. Again, I’m going from the 2.5 safe list of plugins.

One worked, and a few didn’t even pop up in my plugins page.

So, if one worked, I must be uploading them right, right?

Some themes don’t pop up in my themes page at all after uploading, and the rest have the stylesheet missing error. None have worked except the 2 default themes.
