Hi Everyone, having problems with my new adventure in wordpress. I know how to upload using filezilla, this had worked for me before. My hosting company suggested I uninstall and reinstall wordpress for a different reason and now i cannot access plugins, themes, even though on my host cpanel it show it is there.

  • I am assuming that you are talking about not being able to browse those directories through your cPanel file manager? If that’s the case, I’m not sure that it would be a wordpress problem so much as a hosting service problem. WordPress has nothing to do with file and directory structure on your host.

If this is the problem I would suggest you ask your provider why you do not have access to those directories.

I have seen similar problems with other CMS that the provider had to go into the account and fix since it was something happening on their end.

    Hope this helps.

Harriet Anderson: Hi Brandon. My name is Harriet, how are you today?
brandon archer: good than Harriet, I have ben back and forth trying to solve some problems for a couple days now………
Harriet Anderson: I apologize for any inconvenience this has caused you.
Harriet Anderson: What exactly seems to be the issue?
brandon archer: Here is my problem tonight?.I have uninstalled wordpress twice and tech support at I power has done it once. Right now I cannot access plugins, themes or anything I have uploaded to ipower. The proper files are showing on the ipower cpanel. I am new to wordpress and uploading php files, so dumb it up as much as you can! Even better, just fix it for me???.
Harriet Anderson: Could you please provide me the exact URL where you are receiving the error?
    brandon archer: beautytipsat40.com/
    Harriet Anderson: Thank you!
Harriet Anderson: May I place you on hold for 4 or 5 minutes, while I check this for you?
brandon archer: of course, thank Harriet……..
Harriet Anderson: Thank you for holding.
Harriet Anderson: I have checked your website at https://beautytipsat40.com .
Harriet Anderson: Could you please provide me with the exact steps to replicate the issue?
brandon archer: I log into the filezilla on my pc, upload the theme file to the theme folder, everything goes just fine at this point.
brandon archer: log onto my wp-admin, and the theme is not there
Harriet Anderson: Please provide me with the Administrator login details, so that I can check this for you.
brandon archer: I then went into ipower file management(I think thats what is called) and they theme is there…….
    brandon archer: wp-admin info…………beautytipsat40…….. password ….selena-1
    Harriet Anderson: Thank you!
Harriet Anderson: You need to upload the themes to the WordPress through the Administrative interface.
    brandon archer: ?
brandon archer: I did it the way I described before all the uninstalling and it worked……
brandon archer: the administrative interface……can you walk me through that please
Harriet Anderson: It is not possible us to assist you to mange your WordPress.
Harriet Anderson: You need to contact the support of WordPress regarding this.
brandon archer: so your saying its a wordpress problem, nothing to do with I power?
Harriet Anderson: I’m not sure about that.
Harriet Anderson: Please let me know the file size that you have tried to upload.
Harriet Anderson: You can upload a theme file by going to:
    Harriet Anderson: https://beautytipsat40.com/wp-admin/theme-editor.php
brandon archer: I just opened the file manger on the I power control panel………the file is there…..its under public/html, wp content, themes, pink-tulip……… before I uninstalled wordpress about 3 days ago, I was able to do EXACTLY what I did to upload the pink-tulip file and it automatically showed on my wp-admin options
    Harriet Anderson: Okay.
Harriet Anderson: May I place you on hold for 4 or 5 minutes, while I check this for you?
    brandon archer: sure…..
brandon archer: Get More Themes You can find additional themes for your site in the WordPress theme directory. To install a theme you generally just need to upload the theme folder into your wp-content/themes directory. Once a theme is uploaded, you should see it on this page.
brandon archer: I just copied that from the wordpress admin panel…….
Harriet Anderson: Thank you for holding.
Harriet Anderson: While checking, I noticed that there is no wp_admin folder under public_html directory.
Harriet Anderson: You have uploaded the themes to the location /public_html/wp-content/themes/pink-tulip/images.
Harriet Anderson: You have asked to upload the themes to the location /public_html/wp-content/themes.
Harriet Anderson: Please directly upload a theme to the location /public_html/wp-content/themes.
Harriet Anderson: Please contact the support of WordPress for more information.
brandon archer: the file is in the location /public_html/wp-content/themes

OK, I see what your talking about now. First FTP to your site and delete the theme that you uploaded, I have seen problems with trying to install if the theme folder already exists. Now, log in to your wordpress admin panel, select add new themes under Appearence on the left of your wordpress admin panel, select upload at the top just under Install Themes, browse for your [theme].zip file on your local computer and select it, then click on install now. Once it correctly installs you will see options to activate theme or return to themes. Select activate theme (you can do this later also since if it installed correctly it will be in your themes list).
