I’m setting up a basic blog site where the landing page will be the blogroll and posts will be organized into categories. I would like to add pages like “Welcome” and “About Me” which will be available in the menu bar. I would like to turn off comments on pages, but not on posts. Some of the themes I’m trying out don’t support the option to “turn off comments” on specific pages or posts.
Specifically, the 42K and the Blend themes are my primary choices. On the 42K editor I find pages.php where, by removing two lines of code, I can make the comment box disappear on pages. Unfortunately, I cannot figure out a way to do this with the Blend theme. Does anyone know where I can find this option? Is there a plugin which will do this for me? I’ve searched plugins extensively with no luck.
If no plugins, can I use the editor for each individual page to remove the comment box? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  • Disabling comments on a per-Post or per-Page basis is a core WordPress feature, not a Theme feature.

    Chip,
I believe this to be true, but some themes don’t show the feature. On most of the themes I’ve used, in the edit area of both pages and posts, there’s a check box below that says: “allow comments”. On the two themes mentioned, this is not present.
While searching other threads, I found a simple solution which works well. Once a page or two has been created, I went to the dashboard and selected “pages”. From there I selected them all and used bulk actions/edit and found a selection for allowing or disallowing comments. I simply disallowed them this way and everything’s perfect. I hope others will find this helpful!
