Here’s my website so you can see the problem as of 06/25/08: https://www.studythisnow.com. Please please help.

I am basically a novice with all things html, so all be warned.

I think I originally tried to load 2.5.1. via an upgrade (don’t know thats the issue) and then something went wrong. Here are the issues:

    -Themes won’t load in preview
-I can switch themes, but when I view website afterwards, the theme format is all messed up and the entire theme aligns itself vertically on the left side of the page, and won’t load pictures or content properly
-I reinstalled wordpress. Twice. That didn’t fix it.
-Apparently somehow I deleted my files, but thats not the issue either, as I still have the file saved where I can upload all of that content.

    Rhetorical goal:
-View/edit my website and solve this silly problem.

Not a forum expert here. I looked through theme loading problems and could not find the answer. Thanks in advance.

  • In a nutshell, the stylesheet for the theme is not being loaded for one reason or another. This seems to be the most common reason:

Do a search on keywords “nested folders”

You very well may have a folder within a folder, or perhaps zipped folders in your theme directory.

There is a great video tutorial on proper theme uploading located here-

    https://www.village-idiot.org/archives/2008/06/13/how-to-upload-a-wordpress-theme/

This is the path to your style sheet:
    //studythisnow.com/wp-content/themes/contempt_v2 Folder/style.cs

Maybe someone else can confirm this, but the space in “contempt_v2 Folder” may be an issue. I think folder and file names with spaces in them can cause problems.

ClaytonJames thank you very much for your reply on my question. I did indeed have some stuff in the content folder that did not belong. Here’s the story:

Note to anyone needing this: Be careful which folders you are uploading files into!

I watched the tutorial and thanks for including it. If uploading the themes wasn’t the issue, then uploading something else was! It looks like I uploaded a large volume of individual files directly into the overall content folder. This was a mistake which wasn’t caught up until today.

If you’re a novice like me, your content folder should originally include the index.php file, the themes folder, and the plugins folder. If you have a lot more than that in your content folder, then you may have uploaded something into the folder by mistake, and therefore its messing up your website. Now before you do what I did, you may want to backup your files, because I deleted the entire contents altogether: including plugins and themes, and re-uploaded a fresh content folder with nothing in it. Now all the themes in preview are available for viewing, themes are formatted properly, and the website is back working perfectly.

(Be careful here as there may be an easier solution. For example I could have possibly deleted each individual file and left the index.php file, plugins folder, and themes folder in tact. Actually this may be a better idea. It may take longer however.

    Thanks again!
