• I know of course, that WordPress was initially used for blogs exclusively.
I began using it for a business site a couple of years ago. Much preferred to using an HTML editor and a static site, and I’ll never go back.

Many of the available themes, paid and free, are clearly intended for blogs. What I have found surprising, is that quite a few themes that claim to be targeted at commercial sites, use the blog functions for content. For example, category menus, past posts, slider type elements, and so on.

I had originally designed my site with static “pages”, and used the blog for news, info, and so on, as a separate element. Am I missing something in not using the blog function for overall content? I had always thought of the blog as a more linear stream. But maybe I’m seeing it the wrong way?

  • I don’t think you are missing something. I think you are right, making your company site with Page and use Post for news.

The confusion is from the choice of word, the terminology that WP uses to call its content: Page, Post, Custom Post Type, Post Format.
