• Hi,

Looking to build an e-commerce shop for a watch maker.
It has to be clean, highly customizable (ie colours, removing elements that aren’t needed?).

    Features:
    – design: no side bar, ie, at the top, maybe a slider or main image
    – google checkout and paypal / amazon payment integrated or easily added.
    – zoom feature, each view add to cart option
    – multiple currencies
    – an Option for special delivery terms eg. for orders above £20 delivery is free.
    – some kind of receipt log of transactions.

Quite happy to pay for the theme but it must be proven stable and fairly easy to update by the client. No dodgy upgrade issues or lack of support… any suggestions? thanks!

  • While this can be done using WordPress, albeit with a bit of work/hacking/investment.. I doubt you will find a single theme that will facilitate all of these without the use of multiple plugins and a lot of time.

However, if you’re looking for a customisable e-comm solution, take a looking Shopify. It’s a SaaS service which offers most of what you describe, as well at the ability to build/customise your own theme, or purchase other themes.

I just came across some themes from ThemeForest and Thematic…. aren’t these any good? Looks like most of the work is done there?

I need an option to buy as a one off… with shopify, you just ‘rent’ it out, and it’s very expensive. Any views on the above themes?

Have just found out about Storefront themes? anyone used them?
do they include paypal / googlecheckout or other payment options or do these need to be added separately?

These themes look great, anyone used them before?

    Hi Mea777,

I have a good experience using the Comet theme in combination with NextGENGallery and WP Simple Paypal Shopping Cart.
Just need to add the gallery on your post/page together with [template=wp-eStore].

A stronger possibility is the same eStore plugin more complete with all the issues and check out solutions for $ 49,00.

The first one only uses paypal and it is free.

Take a look at my gallery examples, if you are interesting.

SaaS means as you say, renting as it’s software as a service. So of course you have to pay. It’s a given that you have to spend money to make it. Just like a physical shop pays rent.

I have used the wp-ecommerce plugging previously. I can’t speak for any third party themes as I normally develop my own from scratch. Just trying to help you out with suggestions. If the client want to pursue a serious online business they’ll probably need to invest in this, so the rent should be pretty minimal to them. Anyways, just ideas to consider.
