• Basically, what I’m doing is giving myself a crash-course in themes.

However, in the Twenty Eleven Theme, there’s a ton of code that applies to the other 2 themes. Does anyone have pointers to removing the layout/background options (i.e. content placement, etc) so I have less stuff to guess through?

My end desired result is to have the WordPress Twenty Eleven theme with the light color scheme and the content-on-left layout options.

    Ideas?

  • The file can be found in the inc folder in the Twenty Eleven theme folder and is called theme-options.php or if you don’t need it then it is referenced in the functions.php file in the theme folder.

What two other theme? Do you mean the other layouts?

Do not edit the Twenty Eleven theme. It is the default WordPress theme and having access to an unedited version of the theme is vital when dealing with a range of site issues. First create a child theme for your changes.

I understand the purpose of the child theme, but for what I am wanting to do, i.e. unsnarl all the options from one another, it seems as though this is counter to my purpose.

I do not want to add yet more options and divs. I want to narrow down the massive list of things I am not using so that I can better understand what code goes to what option.

Is it feasible to make a copy of the Twenty Eleven theme, name it something else, and use it to chop things out of, thus leaving an unsullied Twenty Eleven in case I botch it?

    Yes – that’s perfectly feasible.
